The design for my MeetMatt project was inspired by the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still, particularly the robotic character Gort. The main goal was to capture a cold, robotic feel and emphasize the glowing glare that appears through his Visor.
For the base material of the body I used a painted steel material which I added some fill layers and generators to to fine tune the texture. For the head I used the same materials as the body but masked the glass visor and used a paint layer to add height information along the visor and on the sides of the head. For the inlays across the body I used a paint layer and the path tool to add negative height information. For the rivets I used a brush with the spacing feature to get a consistent pattern along the panels.
